A very nice, well maintained state run park, in memory of the government's forced relocation of the Cherokee Tribe in the mid 1800s. The small lake has a nice swim beach that is kept very clean. Water is tested regularly, with results posted.

This was our first visit to Trail of Tears and we enjoyed a pleasant night of camping. The overlook is incredible. The nature trail at the Visitor Center was also a nice hike.

Watched the Great American Eclipse from the overlook overlooking the Mississippi River. Had a great time. Department of Conservation managed traffic flow and parking extremely well. A great day allow in all.

Nicely situated with beautifully manicured grounds. Has wooded area also. RV camping right beside the great Mississippi River. Welcome center and within park has abundant information about the forced migration of the Cherokee tribes from the south eastern states to Oklahoma

You will definitely get the real experience of the Native Americans on this trail. It is not well maintained at all. By the end, you'll probably be in tears yourself, which I guess gives it an authentic feel. There were trees down, limbs covering a large section of the trail, which we had to go around. Thank goodness there wasn't any poison ivy! The only saving grace was that it was raining the day we went and we were able to reenact a scene from Romancing the Stone where the ground collapses and they slide down the hill in the muddy water. That was a lot of fun!

Since originally posting about the park have learned that the ladies that established the horticulture club in cape Girardeau created the story of the Cherokee princess to help to bring tourism to Cape Girardeau. It worked. Also there's not a word in the Cherokee language for princess
